A Brief Introduction to Hunan Science and Technology Press

Established as a medium-sized publishing house in May, 1979, Hunan Science ＆ Technology Press（HSTP）has a high reputation among the publishing circles in the country. It specializes in publishing science and technology books．There are over 90 staff members in the press with an annual publication of more than 600 kinds of books．

With the purpose of “advocating a scientific spirit, selecting the essence of a national culture, introducing foreign science and technology, and paying attention to cultural accumulation”, HSTP has published a lot of books of high quality, fine contents and wide influence．Over 400 books have gained many prizes such as National Book Prize and China Book Prize and so on．

Since its foundation, the Press has imported 400 kinds of books．”The First Mover Series” which consists of the world famous popular science books has caused a sensation in all walks of life throughout the country and has been reprinted many times in the past 10 years．”The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein” which is a large-scaled collection with 25 volumes reflecting the life of Albert Einstein, the 20th century scientific giant, are being published by HSTP with Princeton University Press．Six volumes of the collection have been published so far． “A Brief History of Time” and “The Universe in a Nutshell” by Professor Stephen W．Hawking, “The World is Flat” by Tom Freadman, have become best sellers．In addition, the imported books on medicine, management and daily life such as “A Handbook of Foreign Medical Classic”, etc., have enjoyed good benefits both in society and economy．

For many years, the Press has also exported over 50 kinds of books, such as “The Construction Theory Denumerable Markov Processes”, “The Course of Science”, etc. All these books have made a great contribution to advocating scientific spirit, spreading knowledge of science and promoting the development of science．

Up to now, HSTP has established good cooperative relations in copyright business with more than 50 publishing institutions, such as Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Princeton University Press, etc．
